I love this project. Don’t you love to flaunt our crochet work? I was shy of showing my creativity. But now I am opening up and making more items for self-use.
After losing my one and only pair of sunglasses, I was disheartened. I reminded myself to be more careful, responsible towards my belongings and decided to avoid buying something that I do not use. But I did buy one, rather two that came as a BOGO offer. Afterall Sungalsses are important, if you step out in the Sun and here it is always sunny.
So I got made myself a nice Sunglass cover and also got my tote bag to carry around. to flaunt my work.
Here is this beautifully textured Sunshine Sunglasses Cover pattern. I cannot express the degree of happiness I get whenever I flaunt my goggles pouch. Hope you love the pattern too!
Process:
The procedure is similar to my other sunglasses cover – This N That Sunglasses Cover. The cover is made in rounds with only Single Crochet (SC). To get the textured look, I have worked on Back-loop Single Crochet (BLOSC) and Front-loop Single Crochet (FLOSC) alternatively. Other stitches used are Chain Stitch (CH) and Slip Stitch (SLST).
R1: CH 10+1. The chain has 3 loops – front, back, bottom. Take the front and SC across from 2nd loop on the CH. Move towards the other side of the chain. Take the top front loop (leaving the bottom loop behind) and SC across till you reach the starting of the chain. Total 20 SC.
R2: Do not join the 1st SC with SLST. Place a stitch marker and join with 2SC on 1st SC. Sc on every SC before the last SC on that side. 2SC on the last SC on that side and move to the next side. Start with 2sc on 1st SC, SC across before the last SC on the side. 2SC on the last SC. Total 24 SC.
R3: Switch your marker to a new row. *FLOSC, BLOSC *; repeat *-* till you complete the round. Total 24 counts.
R4: Take out the marker and place on a new row. *BLOSC on last row FLOSC, FLOSC on last row BLOSC*; repeat *-* till you reach the marker. Total 24 counts.
R5: Bring the marker to a new row. *FLOSC on last row BLOSC, BLOSC on last row FLOSC*; repeat *-* till you complete the round. Total 24 counts.
Repeat R4 and R5 up to the desired height of the cover. In the last row, work on the pattern for 22 counts. You should be in the corner of one side. CH 2, skip 2 stitches and tie at the beginning of the round with SLST. Cut the yarn and sew the end. Turn the work inside out and sew a press button on both sides to close the opening. Turn again and tie a wristlet band or sling in the CH 2 gap. Hang it inside or outside your bag!
Caution Section:-
- The selection of the yarn is important. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn and the chosen crochet hook determines the design.
- Also, your technique impacts the smoothness or finished look. Everyone has different technique ranging from tight stitching style to medium to loose stitching styles.
- If you are unable to get the required coloured yarn of same thickness, you can change the crochet hook and your technique as you go around, to get the seamless look. For me, I chose crochet hook smaller than recommended one to give a tighter and closer stitch.
- I increased the initial chains because the cotton yarn shrinks after wash or blocking.
Product Specifications:
Defining Dimensions:-
- Height: 6.5″
- Width: 3″
The sizes can be altered based on the total count of the stitches for the rows.
Optional Alterations:-
There are different options that you can follow to modify the pouch as per your need.
1. Like me, you can make the side loop and use a wristlet to hang your pouch along the side of the bag.
2. Increase the pouch size and insert and inline clothing layer for more protection.
3. Instead of a press-button, use a button-loop. Similar to my other mobile covers. The button side should be compatible with sunglass cover.
4. Go creative with the button choice.
Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegance simplicity!!

Sunshine Sunglasses Cover
Style Aisle:
- Hang inside/outside your purse as a go-to pouch for your sunglasses.
- Add a keychain to the wristlet hole to add your keys along.
- I have added a press-button to avoid any slippage of my shades.
- Instead of the leather wristlet, I used this thin plastic tag which I took from the clothing labels. Only when I switch the handbags, I have to remove the goggles and then fold the cover and take it out. But I am loving the reuse of the waste material.
Materials:
- Yarn: Lily Sugar’N Cream – Yellow
- Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm
- Needles
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape
- Stitch Marker: My stitch markers are the mini safety pins we get from clothing tags.
- Note: Feel free to play around with different branded yarns. They should give the consistent flow of the pattern using a constant number crochet hook.
- Either go for the yarns with the same recommended crochet hook OR choose the yarn and change the crochet hooks along as you proceed with the pattern. This might be tricky for beginners.
Happy Crocheting!!!
