I think that when it comes to defining a design for a beanie, especially for masculine society, I try to explore the acceptance of the uniqueness to a greater length. It is challenging to convince a male customer to really like the experimented pattern, especially as clothing wear or accessories.
Here’s what I am trying to present a new look for male wardrobe. Well, the design is crafted in such a way that both – male and female; can wear it but I am pronouncing this design as an Adult Male Beanie.
The knotted texture and the subtle taupe denim shade make it acceptable in the masculine fashion space. Hope that the men out there look out there appreciate this wearable product.
Process:
Th process of creating this pattern is very simple. Using Bottom- top approach, I am defining the brim first to give a different edge and continued to the top in rounds. The entire beanie is made using Half-Herringbone Double Crochet stitch (HHDC ). If the written instructions are confusing then check out the Moogly – Half Herringbone Double Crochet video.
Pattern:-
Body:
Starting with the brim, chain 72; join at the beginning chain with a Slip Stitch (SL ST). Total 72.
Note: You can increase or decrease the count to get the head size. 72 count is ideal for medium head size for men and medium to large head size for women.
R1: Ch 1, SL ST on every chain; join at the beginning chain with a Slip Stitch (SL ST). Total 72.
Note: Make sure the stitches should be in line with the chain and avoid any twists.
R2: Turn, Ch 2, HHDC on back loop; join at the beginning chain with a Slip Stitch (SL ST). Total 72.
Note: We are turning this scenario to bring out the HHDC design in front and in line with the SL ST brim.
R3: Ch 2, HHDC around on each HHDC; join at the beginning chain with a Slip Stitch (SL ST). Total 72.
R4- above: Repeat R3 for 8″.
Note: here either you can repeat R3 for 9″-10″ completely to get the slouchy effect, or you can stop at 8″ and continue decreasing to form the tighter slouchy at the base.
Base:
R1: Decrease the row count. Ch 2, HHDC for 8 HHDC, HHDC2tog¹ for 9th and 10th HHDC; repeat – till the end; join at the beginning chain with a Slip Stitch (SL ST).
R2-R4: Repeat R1.
Note: The idea is to shorten the base count to make a slope. The sequence does not matter. Make sure every 9th and 10th stitch is stitched together.
The size reaches around 9″-10″. Cut the yarn leaving out the long strand to sew the end.
Caution Section:-
- To create the slouch, increase the height of the beanie to more than 10″ but do not exceed 13″-14″.
- Either you can repeat R3 for 9″-10″ completely to get the slouchy effect, or you can stop at 8″ and continue decreasing to form the tighter slouchy at the base.
- The thickness and elasticity of the yarn vary the diameter of the base.
- The crochet hook recommended vs the crochet hook used defines the design.
- You can increase or decrease the count to get the head size. 72 count is ideal for medium head size for men and medium to large head size for women.
- Concentrate on the base diameter of the beanie and increase or decrease the rows. Generally, for any adult beanie 60-84, DC is suitable.
- Make sure the stitches should be in line with the chain and avoid any twists when starting at the beginning.
- Keep measuring the circumference and the height to avoid frogging or rework.
