Since Mother’s Day was in the last week, I took a break from sharing Male beanie patterns and focussed entirely on Mom-Daughter combo Beanie. But this week, I am back with completely simple yet another exciting design.
The wonderful part of creativity is the experiments. There will always be the basic stitches or basic strokes, and shapes. New designs are always permutation of these basic functionalities. The more I am observing my fellow crocheters, the more confidence I am gaining in this concept.
This pattern too follows the same principle. Basic stitches are mixed in rows. That is why the name ELEMENTAL ADULT MALE BEANIE.
It is indeed a challenging task to come up with suave and simplistic designs for male couture. I am loving this challenge. It has definitely honed my skills and increased my love for crochet.
All of the patterns that I have shared with you till date can be made for adults, teenagers and babies. There is no hard and fast rule that a design belongs to a specific age group or gender.
The attraction lies in the selection of the stitches and colour contrast. There are few basic rules to be kept in mind, though while selecting colours and mixing them. And you can create a timeless accessory.
I hope these experiments are fruitful for you and you get to make new designs for your family and friends.
Process:
The pattern is the combination of Double Crochet Stitches (DC) and Single Crochet (SC) Stitch moving top to bottom.

R2: Ch 2, 2 DC in each DC; join at the beginning at the 1st DC with SL ST. Total 24 DC.
R3: Ch 2, DC in DC, 2DC in next DC; repeat –; join at the beginning at the 1st DC with SL ST. Total 36 DC.
R4: Ch 2, DC in 2 DC, 2DC in next DC; repeat –; join at the beginning at the 1st DC with SL ST. Total 48 DC.
R5: Ch 2, DC in 3DC, 2DC in next DC; repeat –; join at the beginning at the 1st DC with SL ST. Total 60 DC.
R6: Ch 2, DC in 4DC, 2DC in next DC; repeat –; join at the beginning at the 1st DC with SL ST. Total 72 DC.
R7: Ch 1, SC in every DC; join at the beginning at the 1st SC with SL ST. Total 72 SC.
R8: Ch 2, DC in every SC; join at the beginning at the 1st DC with SL ST. Total 72 DC.
Repeat R7 and R8 till you get the desired height of the beanie.
Edging:-
SC for 3 rows around.
Caution Section:-
- The selection of the yarn is important. The thickness and elasticity of the yarn and the chosen crochet hook determines the design.
- Also, your technique impacts the smoothness or finished look. Everyone has different technique ranging from tight stitching style to medium to loose stitching styles.
- In case, you are unable to get the required chosen coloured yarn of same thickness, you can change the crochet hook and your technique as you go around, to get the seamless look. For me, I chose one crochet hook and changed my technique for different yarns.
- It will be easy if the basics of the hat’s height are defined. For e.g., if the total height of the hat is 9″ and leaving 0.25″-0.5″ for the chocolate fur edging.
Product Specifications:
Defining Dimensions:-
- Height: 9.5″
- Circumference: 23″-24″
The sizes could be altered based on the count of the stitches for the rows.
Optional Alterations:-
- For edging, you can use fur, Crab Stitch, Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) or Slip Stitch of same or contrasting colours.
- You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
- You can use a different colour for the edging to give a different pop.
Remember: do not over accessorise it. This hides the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
