Last week, I shared how I creatively turned my mistake into a new style beanie. The only downside of the experience was that I had to devote additional time to start the search again. But the upside is that I didn’t stop the work since the final product wasn’t for the exact age group. It still made a good gift and I can happily gift to someone and so can you.
Yes, mistakes do pull us down. After all, every creation takes a lot of time, energy, effort, love and passion. And a small and silly mistake in these makes the effort go in vain and just adds to the anxiety. So, whenever I start to feel so I just leave the work at that point and take a break. This break can continue for the rest of the day, but it definitely is healthy.
Next morning, I get back to work with a fresh mind. If I get an idea, I start fresh especially when the delivery date is near, or I start looking for newer ideas online. Exploring the creative and talented world through the window of Pinterest gives me a fresh perspective and newer ideas on ways to think differently. Have you tried this? You should give a try…
I can say that unless the customer is specifically asking for a pattern, you can go as imaginative as you want. Who knows you might produce your best work!
Since my last beanie was a bottom-top approach, which gave me the wrong size. I didn’t take the risk to proceed with a similar approach again. I believe I am much comfortable with the top-bottom approach. Adding another row to increase the height is lesser risky than setting the base circumference.
Process:
In this process, I followed the top-bottom approach using Single crochet (SC) and Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC). The pattern is exactly the same as Men’s Black Reversible Beanie.
The yarn is completely different than the ones generally found in US Stores. I had to precautiously calculate and measure the hat circumference and size. Even as experienced crocheters we tend to miscalculate because we are comfortable with the certain thickness of the yarn.
I have added 2 rows of single crochet stitch (SC) at the end followed by Reverse Single Crochet (RSC) to give a soft nudge.
I added a pom-pom at the top to pop up the hat.
Caution Section:-
- The yarn is 4 ply yarn. Thus instead of going with 72 counts (which is general total counts for adults female), I measured and checked and did 84 count stitch.
- So, measure again and calculate again, if you are completely changing your comfort zone. I went from the worsted weight (10ply) to sport (4ply) yarn.
- Almost a complete 50 gm yarn was consumed for the pompom. Plan and buy your yarn accordingly. You might want to increase the count by 1 for pom-pom.
- Furthermore, the elasticity of the yarn impacts the sizing and count of stitches. If you are a beginner then you might prefer checking after every 2 rows to see if the size is fitting or not.
Product Specifications:
Defining Dimensions:-
Circumference: 22″-23″
Height: 9″
Optional Alterations:-
- You can increase the base diameter to give a more slouchy feel. Also, increase the height of the beanie.
- You can add pom-pom matching the colour with the edging or the base colour. There are different ways to create pom-pom.
- You can attach flowers, beads or a bow made of crochet, plastic, suede leather etc to give cuteness to the hat.
- You can put fur edging or tassels to give a different touch.
Remember: do not over accessorise it. This takes away the beauty of the pattern itself. Believe in elegant simplicity!!
